It occasionally happens that over long time usage, you notice a slight or major decrease in the performance of your iPad. This can affect your experience in using the device as it becomes slower in accessing and navigating between different apps and other functions. If you buy iPad for schools, the slowdown issues can become a problem, as the tablets are used for a range of educational purposes in such institutions.

This slowdown of iPad is caused due to numerous factors such as excessive memory usage, too much background apps, low storage space, etc. Yet by identifying the factors behind the issue, you can actually apply the corrective measures to resolve them and speed up your iPad. Below is how to speed up your slow running iPad.

Deleting Unwanted Apps

If you are a hardcore user, there may be many unwanted apps on your iPad. These apps can take up the valuable storage space as well as consume memory thereby slow down your iPad. By deleting these apps, you can free up some space thereby allowing iOS to operate more easily. You can easily delete any of the unused apps by just tapping and holding on the app icon. Then tap on the ‘x’ located at the top left corner of the app to delete it.

To delete multiple apps, go to, Settings > General and open Storage & iCloud Usage. Then select the Manage Storage option that will display all the apps and their storage requirements. Tap on the app and then tap on the Delete App option to remove it from the device.

Disabling Background Refresh

The background refresh option works in the background of your device that verifies the apps for any available updates. This can consume a lot of memory especially if you have a large number of apps. You can disable this background refresh option to save memory and speed up your iPad.

This is particularly the case if you own an older model such as the iPad Mini or iPad 2. To turn off the background refresh option on your iPad, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and toggle the Background App Refresh option to Off position.

Turning off Location Services

The Location Services are another feature that can consume large amounts of memory and battery power in your iPad. It is a useful feature for many apps to identify your location and provide the right kind of services. However, if you are looking for a performance boost, it is better to turn off the location service feature.

For this, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and toggle the switch next to it to the Off position. Tap on the Turn Off button in the window that appears to confirm your action.
